Bring a Little Local Harvest Home: Easy Fall Decorating Around Menifee
Fall is one of my favorite times to make a home feel a little warmer and more inviting. And the good news is, you don’t need 50 pumpkins, a porch full of skeletons, or a shopping cart overflowing with new decorations to do it.
Sometimes a few pumpkins, some fall flowers, a cozy throw, and an afternoon spent enjoying one of our local pumpkin patches or farmers markets is all you need to bring a little bit of the season home.
Start With a Few Pumpkins
Pumpkins are probably the easiest fall decoration there is.
Place two or three near the front door, add a few smaller pumpkins to your dining table or kitchen island, or put a mix of pumpkins and gourds into a wooden bowl or basket.
And they don’t all have to be orange. Mixing traditional orange pumpkins with white, cream, green, or heirloom varieties can give your home a warmer, more natural fall look.
Best of all, pumpkins can take you from October right through Thanksgiving.
Add Fall Flowers Without Making More Work
I love fresh flowers, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using good-quality artificial flowers and fall stems.
A simple arrangement of muted sunflowers, mums, eucalyptus, wheat, or warm rust-colored leaves can last the entire season and come back out again next year.
Try a small arrangement on your dining table, kitchen counter, entry table, or fireplace mantel. You don’t need flowers everywhere. One or two arrangements can be enough to bring those fall colors into the room.
Bring in a Little Warmth
You probably already own some of the easiest fall decorating pieces.
Pull out a cozy throw. Change one or two pillow covers. Add a basket beside the sofa. Put a flameless candle on the coffee table or add a warm lamp to a darker corner.
You aren’t redecorating your house. You’re simply changing a few details to make it feel a little cozier for the season.
Make Your Front Porch Feel Like Fall
Your porch doesn’t have to look like a Halloween attraction to celebrate October.
A few pumpkins, a seasonal doormat, a basket, some fall flowers or mums, and a simple wreath can completely change the entrance to your home.
And when Halloween is over, you don’t have to start over. Take away anything spooky, leave the pumpkins and fall colors, and you’re ready for November.
Make a Day of It and Support Local
One of the things I love about living in the Menifee Valley is that we have plenty of opportunities nearby to enjoy the season.
Instead of picking up everything at a big-box store, make an afternoon of it. Visit a local pumpkin patch or farmers market, find a pumpkin you love, pick up some seasonal produce or flowers, grab lunch or coffee, and enjoy our community.
Menifee
Wickerd Farm on Scott Road is a great hometown option when you’re looking for that traditional pumpkin-patch experience without leaving Menifee.
Menifee is also celebrating the season with its annual Fall Festival on October 17 at Mt. San Jacinto College. It’s another fun way to get out and enjoy fall close to home.
Murrieta
The Murrieta Farmers Market at Village Walk Plaza is held on Sundays and is a great place to browse local vendors and seasonal finds.
Downtown Murrieta also hosts Market Nights, giving you another opportunity to shop from local vendors, enjoy food and entertainment, and spend an evening supporting local businesses.
Temecula
If you want the full pumpkin-patch experience, Peltzer Pumpkin Farm in Temecula is a fun fall destination and is open through October 31.
You can also head into Old Town Temecula for the Saturday farmers market, where you’ll find local produce, flowers, artisan foods, and plenty of reasons to spend a fall morning wandering around Old Town.
Enjoy the Home and the Community Around It
For me, loving where you live isn’t just about the house itself.
It’s the front porch you decorate for fall. It’s sitting outside when the weather finally starts cooling down. It’s visiting a local pumpkin patch with the grandkids, walking through a farmers market on Saturday morning, or finding that perfect pumpkin to put beside your front door.
Sometimes making your home feel like fall really is as simple as a few pumpkins, some flowers, a cozy throw, and an afternoon spent enjoying the community around you.
And that’s one of the things I love about living and working right here in the Menifee Valley.
